Bill attended and played football for Skyline High School until he graduated in 1969. He continued his education at the University of Utah earning a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science in 1974. Upon graduation, he had a 40-year career at Sperry UNIVAC which is now L-3 Communications. Bill was always up for a good challenge, spending time in the outdoors, and staying active in the hobbies he loved. He played tennis for many years, winning several tournaments. Bill, Sterling, Sandra, and Brad all played tennis and competed at, and for, The Canyon Racquet Club.

Bill was also a serious cyclist often putting thousands of miles on his bike each year. He participated in many rides including the M.S. 150 in support of the M.S. Society and his brother, Brad as well as six different LOTOJA rides.

Bill could complete 2000-piece puzzles that would give most people a headache and he frequently caught the first Tram at Snowbird on a fresh powder day. He started skiing in his early teens and spent many days on the slopes with his lifetime ski pass to Snowbird. Bill had a love for all sports, especially when it involved his children. He never missed a football, baseball, or soccer game that his boys competed in. Bill underwent various surgeries in his lifetime as a result of his active lifestyle. Although it caused great frustration in his life, he always found a way to get back to doing what he loved.

Bill met Sheila Olsen at the Canyon Racquet Club and they were married in 1981 in the Salt Lake Temple. Bill and Sheila had three children, Justin (Melissa), Brandon (Becky), and Robby. Bill and Sheila divorced in 1999, but remained good friends. On September 11, 2016 Bill suffered a devastating stroke that took away his ability to communicate verbally and enjoy the various activities he loved. Despite his challenges, he continued to show off his smile and personality which would light up any room he entered. Bill has four grandchildren, Corbin, Claire, Trey, and Nora. He loved his grandkids and went out of his way to make sure that they knew how much he cared about them. You could always count on Bill to watch dogs and other pets when you went out of town, and that was something he always found great joy in. Bill is preceded in death by his parents and his grandson Trey, who passed away earlier this year. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 15th, at the Canyon Rim Stake Center located at 3051 S 2900 E Salt Lake City, Ut 84109. A viewing will take place prior to the services from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. Interment to follow services at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E 10600 S Sandy, Ut 84092.
