In Memory

March 6, 1951 – December 12, 2025 Mark Dennis Ulrich, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away on December 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born March 6, 1951, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Herman Dean and Marie Allen Ulrich, Mark was raised in East Millcreek and graduated from Skyline High School in 1969. He served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Ireland from 1970 to 1972, where he gained a profound testimony of the restored gospel and developed a lifelong passion for teaching its doctrines and performing temple work. On November 15, 1972, he married his beloved Laura Knight in the Salt Lake Temple—a union that would span more than 53 joyful years. Mark graduated from the University of Utah, but make no mistake: he was a die-hard BYU fan through and through, holding season tickets for decades and enthusiastically sharing Cougar game days with his family. Professionally, Mark enjoyed a distinguished career in real estate. He began at Western Realty, earned Salesman of the Year in 1984, and founded Ulrich Realtors in 1986. Over decades, he helped thousands of families find homes, cherishing most the enduring friendships he formed along the way. For 19 years he taught Institute classes for the Church Educational System, inspiring countless students with his knowledge and love of the gospel. He served faithfully in multiple bishoprics and high councils, as a bishop, and most memorably with Laura as president of the England Manchester Mission from 2014 to 2017. Mark’s deepest devotion, however, was to the house of the Lord. Challenged by his mission president to attend the temple weekly and purchase a gospel book each week, he honored that commitment throughout his life—building a personal library that rivals Deseret Book, every volume read, marked, and loved. He served as a temple worker for over 50 years in the Salt Lake, Jordan River, and Draper temples. Few patrons or fellow workers left without feeling his powerful testimony and warm spirit. A passionate water skier who could carve endless turns on glassy lakes, Mark passed his love of the water to his family. Later in life he discovered scuba diving and continued pursuing it with characteristic enthusiasm—even completing a dive trip to Fiji just two months ago, long after his cancer diagnosis. Mark approached life with contagious optimism, always singing “There Is Sunshine in My Soul Today” and declaring whatever was in front of him “the best ever”—because he made it so. Above all titles and accomplishments, Mark’s greatest pride and joy were being a husband to Laura, father to seven children, grandfather to 27 grandchildren who thought Grandpa could walk on water (because he basically did), and great-grandfather to three who will grow up hearing the legends. He is survived by his eternal companion, Laura; his mother, Marie Allen Ulrich; his brother, Steve (Debra) Ulrich; his children: Angel (Joel) Hair, Nathan (Danielle), April (Kyle) Sintz, Matthew (Candice), Mike (Fallon), Joseph (Cassidy), and Allison (Mason) Ellis; 27 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a host of dear friends who became family. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Dean Ulrich, and sister Robyn Lever. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests attending the temple, studying the scriptures, or enjoying a quiet moment on the water—preferably when it’s perfectly calm. Until we meet again, dear Mark. The lake is glass, the temple is open, and the Savior is waiting. A celebration of Mark’s life will be held Saturday December 20th, 2025 at 11:00 am in the South Jordan River Ridge Stake Center, 1100 W. 10168 So., where a viewing will be held Friday 5 - 8pm and Saturday 9:30 - 10:30 am. Burial following the service will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. Webcast of the services can be found at: https://jenkins-soffe.com/obituaries/mark-ulrich-2025.

Courageous and brave, Mark met time/death with a cheerful and optimistic defiance, which is honored. For the family, there is much grief, and I am very sorry .Confident I am that Mark moves to a better place, a place of everlasting glory and love.

Mark was not only a cousin, but a great friend. We had some great times at Skyline. I had a chance to visit with him the day after Thanksgiving, and he still had a positive, cheery attidude. He was so grateful to our Father in Heaven for the extra 2 1/2 years he had to spend with his family and working in the Temple, where he was still able to attend and work several times a week, up until a couple months ago. His love for his family was so evident at his funeral, as his wife and each child spoke of his eternal love for them. So many missionaries from his time as mission president in England gathered there to swap spiritual memories of Mark. He was a mountain of a man, and I have always held him in such high esteem. Stay busy up there until we have another family runion in Heaven. Luv you cuz!

I was blessed to serve with Mark in the Jordan River Temple for nearly 3 years before his passing. Mark was always optimistic and cheerful despite his cancer diagnosis. Several years earlier I got to have dinner with Mark and Laura in Manchester, England when they served as mission leaders there. Hard to believe another one of our Sherman Elementary School and Skyline High School friends has graduated from the life. We were blessed to grow up when we did and to have so many wonderful friends.

I met Mark in Junior High and stayed friends and in close contact into our early adulthood when our jobs and moves took us in different directions. I never had an experience with him that was anything other than super positive and uplifting. His smile was contagious, and he had a rare ability to make anyone he was around feel better about themselves. Just seeing his picture here brought back so many wonderful memories.
