Michael Ann Herzog

Michael Ann Herzog

Michael-Ann Herzog
1949 ~ 2013

Heaven's Special Child
Michael-Ann Herzog was born June 5, 1949, to Jean and Howard Herzog. She was a beautiful baby with black hair and big brown eyes. She had problems at birth but stole the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A highlight in her life was graduating from Skyline High School. She and her sister, Chris, walked across the stage together to receive their diplomas. Michael-Ann worked at Deseret Industries for thirteen years when her health began to spiral downward. She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis when she was 36 years old and was wheelchair-bound until, on May 15th, 2013, she joined her father, who preceded her in death.
Through all her trials, she never wavered in her love for the Lord. She would shed tears while listening to the L.D.S. General Conference talks. As she listened to the music of the Tabernacle Choir, she and her mother would sing along with them. She was so happy to help teach Primary with her Aunt Marion Erikson.
She and her three sisters, Mary, Chris, and Julie, along with their parents, were always the greatest of friends. Michael-Ann looked forward to movies at the outdoor drive-in theaters, especially the goodies Mom packed for them. She loved the singing whenever the family drove anywhere and going on weekend vacations to Logan, Provo, and the Homestead in Heber City. On these trips, the girls would swim while Dad played golf. She also enjoyed traveling to Boston to stay with her sister, Mary. But the grandest excursion of her life was to Austria, Germany, and Switzerland with her parents and her Uncle Marlin and Aunt Pearl Parry.
As her health deteriorated, her family gathered around her, helping in any way that would give her comfort. Although she was very ill and incapacitated, she would reach out to hold her mother's hand. She said it made her feel safe. Many times each day, she would profess love for her family. No words can express the love her mother and sisters felt for her.
She is preceded in death by her beloved father and brother-in-law Mike Akin. She is survived by her mother Jean; her sisters Mary (Drew) Parkin, Chris (David) Edwards, and Julie Akin; nieces Tiffany Aragon, Melissa (Judd) Ellis, and Rachel Parkin; nephew John Howard Parkin; and grandniece Madison Ellis.
She would want to thank her neighbors and friends for their visits and words of comfort, her wonderful home health and hospice caregivers, and especially her niece, Melissa, for her tender, loving care.
But ... evening came and her work was done and we are aware of the silence.
A viewing will be held at the East Millcreek Ninth Ward Chapel, 3750 Hillside Lane, on Monday, May 20, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., with funeral services to follow at noon. Burial will be at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery.
