In Memory

Bruce Niermeyer

Bruce Niermeyer

Michael Bruce Niermeyer

May 19, 1951 ~ May 7, 2018
Bruce Niermeyer, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather, succumbed to a rare and aggressive form of vascular sarcoma days after diagnosis. He was surrounded by his wife and children, singing "Amazing Grace."

Born Michael Bruce Niermeyer in Salt Lake City, Utah, Bruce moved often as a child, living in many places including Chile and British Columbia. He studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Utah. As a young man, he learned the drilling trade, working many places, from Arizona to Alaska. He was an entrepreneur and a natural leader. In 1991, he founded Cascade Drilling, his final venture, which he led until his recent retirement.

His greatest career satisfaction came from the personal relationships he developed over the years. He was appreciated for his kindness to all. Bruce had the intelligence and ability to master any problem he encountered; he was the go-to problem solver. He loved science and he loved the arts. Bruce was a true Renaissance man. He took care of all of the people in his life and made sure they knew he loved them. If Bruce was on the case, there was nothing to fear. All will dearly miss him.

He is preceded in death by his parents Carol (Carmichael) and Karl Niermeyer; his sister, Linda Trethewy; and his first wife, Cynthia Goff Niermeyer.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Amy Masich Niermeyer; his son, Michael Niermeyer (Nichole) and granddaughter Claire; his daughters Mary Carpenter and Elizabeth "Lily" Niermeyer; his brother, Jeffry Niermeyer (Gloria); his sisters Deborah Masich (Andrew) and Jane Cromhout; and many beloved nephews and nieces.

While receiving treatment for bile duct cancer three years ago, his faith grew and he credits God's grace and the power of prayer for the miraculous gift of life he was given. Bruce's legacy lives on in the continuing love and good work of those whose lives he touched. The family requests that no flowers be sent, but would love it if you would offer a kindness to a stranger or friend and think of Bruce. He favored Christian organizations and those that supported women and children, and the arts.
