Roxanne Schmidt (Udy) VIEW PROFILE

Roxanne Schmidt (Udy)

Roxanne Schmidt Udy quietly passed on Nov. 25, 2018, surrounded by loved ones after a valiant seven -year battle with lymphoma. Born in SLC in November 1950, she was the oldest of the six children of Ruth Manwill and Jerold Schmidt. She attended Skyline High and graduated from Dixie College (1971). Rox married her eternal companion, Ivan Udy, on September 1, 1993. Ivan has always been a loyal and loving companion to Rox and faithfully administered to all of her needs, especially during her final illness. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with an unshakeable testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, Rox believed her mission in life was service and that is how she lived. She joyfully and unwaveringly fulfilled many Church callings. We know that she has already experienced a tearful reunion with her Savior, her parents, and her missionary nephew, Elder Levi Ross. Rox never once complained about her challenges and always seemed to see only the good in others. She was so grateful to all those who attended to her during her illness, and particularly to the 9th floor staff at IMC who ministered to her so gently.
Rox is survived by her husband, Ivan, her brothers and sisters, Hollie Orton (Terry), Laurie Roberts (Mike), Julie Hogue (Mayo), Teri Kramer (Brad), and Greg Schmidt (Michele), her daughter, Carrie Blaisdell (from her first husband, David Blaisdell), her daughter (with Ivan), Jacie Udy Gutierrez (David), as well as Ivan's children, Angela Guerts (Jason), Steph Udy, Kris Cauvina (Eugene), Bryan Udy (Jill), and Josh Udy (Xan). Rox was also a second mother to many other nieces and nephews, including Lindsey Brinton and Marlo Dwelle. Rox considered all of the above as her own children, and their children as her grandchildren, and often expressed how blessed she was to have all of them in her life. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren (her "Squishies") who were her world, as well as her loving step-father of 42 years, Doug McEwan, and Rox's "partner-in-crime," Diane Strong, who brought such joy to her life. Rox recently took the vacation of a lifetime to Disney World with almost her entire family and considered it one of her most cherished memories.
In tribute to Rox, we as her family offer the words which her father, Jerold wrote for Rox's grandmother, but which we believe also reflect our feelings for this greatly loved woman: "An echo of you is within me, a part I treasure so much that I passed it on to my children…your echo, your heart, your touch."
Services: Funeral held on Thursday, December 6, at 11 a.m. at the Millcreek 9th LDS Ward, 4220 South Jeannine Drive (420 East), SLC, UT. Viewings held at the same building on Wednesday evening, December 5, 6:00-8:00 p.m. and prior to the funeral on Thursday morning 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment: Elysian Burial Gardens. I’m so sorry to hear of Roxanne’s passing. I didn’t know her well but admired her. She was a faithful daughter of God and I know she will continue to inspire others on both sides of the veil.

When Roxanne was added to the Skyline Memories I was so shocked, we had just recently communicated about the reunion and seeing each other there.  It's taken me a while to write about Roxy, I haven't wanted to really believe she is no longer with us.  Even though we knew each other in high school it was at Dixie Jr. College we became great friends, we were roommates most of our two years at Dixie.  She was so enthusiastic about life and people. She was a talented writer. I've been reading some of her writings published in Skyline's Satorian and also Dixie's Southern Quill.  Even though life and family had separated us over the years she found me a year and a half ago by sending me a message on family search.  Evidently she and my husband share a distant relative.  We had communicated over that time and as mentioned planned to see each other at the reunion.  In true Roxy fashion I don't recall her mentioning she was ill. She only talked about her wonderful husband Ivan, children, and her love of serving others. In my memories of her I'll always be able to hear her gravelly voice and see her amazing smile.

Peggy, thank  you so much for your post honoring Roxanne.  I was so touched by your mention of her deep voice;indeed that voice belied a lovely and bright spirit that was there for others, even if we were too pre-occupied to see.  I am so glad you got to experience her and her gift; I am so sad for her loss, for her family who must feel a heaviness where there once was light.  Roxanne you are missed.

I was stunned and taken aback to see her name here.  We had classes together throughout junior high and high school. I also had the privilege of working with Roxanne and her sister Hollie at Heber Valley Milk Depot in my senior year.  She was always had a super positive attitude and seemed unflappable. I sure thought she was someone to look up to and that she had it all figured out, or would sooner than I would. I have cited her positive example to my children in raising them. My  condolences to all her family. Thank you all. I’m so glad I knew her.
